Normal service resumed
So, following what many thought was a blip in our good start of the season, normal service was resumed when we were beaten 2-0 at Everton. The Toffees were one of the fancied teams to break into the top 6 this season but their start has been hardly inspiring and saw them in the relegation spot at the start of the weekend. Now we all know that if a team needs a change in fortunes, whether it be a win , some goals or a clean sheet then who better to be your next opponents at Goodison than the Irons. And, as per usual, we dleivred on all three accounts. If the result wasn't bad enough the performance was shocking. No passion, a lack of any real possession, a totally ineffectual midfield, no balance, wrong decisions when in good positions and the mystery of leaving our current best player, Yarmolenko, on the bench. The latter being the most baffling.
Not going to dwell too much, and hopefully we can turn things around next week at home to Sheffield United. However, my worry is that our midfield seems very light weight and was easily out -battled by Everton's midfield and next week the Blades are likely to be similarly robust in nature. Maybe some changes are needed in this area, but who? Snodgrass will certainly add some energy and may be the right man for this type of game. Outside of that I am struggling to see anyone else who can make a difference. Clearly Yarmolenko needs to start in place of any one of Anderson, Lanzini or Fornals and maybe you can add Wilshere to that list. Clearly, if fit, Cresswell will return at left-back and that would be my only change in defence who performed well but were let down by our weak midfield. Up front, we could play Ajeti alongside Haller in a 4-4-2 formation but i don't think our midfield is strong enough for that. So my predicted line-up would be:
Fredericks Diop Ogbonna Cresswell
So, all doom and gloom at the moment. Hopefully, Pellegrini can work some magic in training this week and the players will step up, However, I'm none too confident and feel that Sheffield United will be fired up for revenge.
