The Noble Art
The Leader Returns
So The Irons record their first win of the season with a convincing 3-1 win away to Watford. It was good to Sebastien Haller get his first goals for the club, the second being a cracking overhead kick. Just a shame that his acrobatic flying back-heel didn't go in during the first half as that would have been some hat-trick. He looks a real handful and could be something special.. So in true West Ham fashion, expect him to pick up an injury in the next few weeks.
Our other goal came from captain Mark Noble, tucking away a penalty in the third minute in his usual, reliable fashion. This was Nobles first game of the season and it cannot be a coincidence that his return saw our first win. A lot of supporters don't notice the difference he makes. However, when you hear what some of the other players say about him, he is our leader and an integral part of the team. Always ready to cajole players and bollock where needed, something that has been lacking so far this season. And, dare I say it, he is looking far more composed on the ball as he gets older. Haller may have got the two goals but Noble put in the Man of the Match performance. Great to have him back.
Elsewhere, there were fine performance across the pitch. However, a worry was Andrei Yarmalenko's performance. I know he is coming back from a long term injury but he was slow, and offered very little apart from a good effort in the second half. Yet to be convinced by him.
Compare this to Antonio who put in a solid effort when he came on in the second half and could have or should have scored. The conundrum with Antonio is do you start him or bring him on when the opposition are lagging and let him run them ragged. An issue fo`r Pelligrini.
Up for the cup
Next up we take on Newport County away in the Caraboa cup. No doubt some ppayers will be rested and it will also be a chance for some of our new signings and fringe players to get a chance. Hopefully Pelligirni takes the game seriouslly as it would be good to have a decent cup run. So hoepfuul he will get the right mix of experience and youth as Newport are on a good run at the moment and they should not be taken lightly.
My prediction, a nervy 2-1 win for the Iorns.
