WTF is going on?
Once again the Irons failed to turn up as they suffered another loss, this time at home to lowly Newcastle. The 2-3 scoreline flattered West Ham, they could have gone in 5-0 down at the break instead of only 2-0. At least they showed a little bit of effort in the second half after going 3-0 down to pull two goals back, but it was just too little too late.
After last weeks poor performance against Sheffield United, strangely Pellegrini played the same team. Zabaleta, who had a poor game last week, was run ragged by Allan Saint-Maximin and you have to question Pellegrinis' judgement in pitting Zabas ageing legs against him.
However, the old warrior wasn't the only player to blame. Noble was well off the pace and was hooked at half-time along with an ineffective Yarmolenko. Roberto was at fault with two of the goals being slow off his line for the Fernandez header and should have saved Shelvey's curling free-kick just after the break. Mr reliable Declan Rice had a poor game, hitting many miss placed passes and Anderson was totally ineffectual again. Andersons lack of form is very worrying and his body language leaves a lot to be desired. And again, Haller was left isolated.
Strangely, the Irons had 69% of the play and more shots than Newcastle. It's a funny old game.
Next up we are away to Burnley who were beaten 3-0 at Sheffield United. No doubt the Irons will help the Clarets get back to winning ways.
